This Horsemanship Clinic will target refining and perfecting the fundamentals of our horse knowledge: ground work, disengaging the horse’s rear end, knowing when the horse’s mind is ready for you to safely get on their backs, body softness, leg positions, speed control, stops, and most importantly, knowing when to quit. How we end our ride will determine our horse’s mind for the next day.
Often times all we need to do is slow down and go back to the basics in order to advance our horsemanship skills. This allows us to perfect our angles, our timing, and our communication with our horses. Once we have refined those basic principles, we then can advance to increased speed and complexity of our riding.
During this Ranch Riding clinic, we will have the opportunity to leave the arena walls and ride outdoors in an authentic working cattle ranch set up. Our horses and riders will be able to demonstrate skills and confidence while riding through acres of pasture, near water, opening/closing gates, through herds of cattle, etc. This is an ideal setting for incorporating the confidence each rider has learned inside the arena and applying that confidence to an open, outdoor setting.
This clinic may include, but is not limited to: ground work, round pen work, drills, large arena work, obstacles, flag work, pasture riding.
Primary Focus: Horsemanship / Ranch Riding
