Horsemanship/ Cow work

  • Harmon Equine Millsap, TX (map)

This Horsemanship Clinic will quickly review the fundamentals of horsemanship: ground work, disengaging the horse’s rear end, knowing when the horse’s mind is ready for you to safely get on their backs, body softness, leg positions, speed control, stops, leads, and most importantly, knowing when to quit. How we end our ride will determine our horse’s mind for the next day.

In this 2 day (half day 6 AM-10 AM) clinic we will progress to more advanced drills once we have refined our fundamentals. Once we have demonstrated control of our horses , we will incorporate cattle in the following capacity:

  • How to control a cow by getting their eye

  • How to drive a cow by identifying the drive line

  • How to sort a cow organically out of the herd while in sorting pens

  • How to rely on your legs when riding your horse instead of initially being quick handed and heavy handed with your reins.

  • Holding a cow

  • Boxing a cow (if appropriate)

We will work on ourselves, and in return, our horses will get better!

This clinic may include, but is not limited to: ground work, round pen work, drills, large arena work, obstacles, flag work, live cattle, riding outside of the arena.
